Triton Pulls Double At West Central
FRANCESVILLE – In the first-ever meeting between the two schools as Hoosier North Athletic Conference opponents, Triton started off the rivalry the way it wanted with wins in both the boys and girls games Saturday night.
Triton’s boys had no trouble in its 74-33 win while the girls pulled away late for a 38-20 victory.
Triton raced to a 23-6 lead in the first quarter and put the cart on cruise from there. Jordan Anderson was directing the horses, scoring 27 points with the help of six made three-pointers. Anderson also added four steals and two assists. Grant Johnson added in 14 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals and Dalton Pitney picked up his scoring touch with 10 points.
Nate Neeley led the host Trojans (1-9, 1-3 HNAC) with 14 points and six boards.
In the girls contest, Hannah Wanemacher had one of her bigger games for Triton, scoring 22 points. The streaky guard hit four threes and added in five rebounds and two assists. Nicole Sechrist and Jaela Meister combined for 13 of the remaining output on the scoreboard for the Lady Trojans.
Triton nearly pitched a shutout in the first half, taking a 16-3 lead into the lockerroom. West Central outscored Triton 10-8 in the third quarter, but the visitors doubled up the hosts in the final quarter.
Clarissa Blackburn led West Central (3-14, 1-3 HNAC) with eight points.
Triton’s boys and girls JV teams each left Francesville with wins as well. In the girls game, Triton won 40-19 and the boys won 50-40. Drew Stichter of Triton and Ryan Smith of West Central each scored 14 points. Girls stats were not provided.
Triton’s varsity boys move to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the HNAC with a game against Class 1-A No. 11 Culver Friday night in another boys/girls doubleheader. Triton’s varsity girls are now 6-11 overall and 5-0 in the HNAC with the conference on the line Tuesday in hosting 4-0 Winamac. Knox, which has already lost to both Triton and Winamac, is third in the conference at 3-2.
