No U-turns In Silver Lake Soon
SILVER LAKE — When it comes to making a U-turn in downtown Silver Lake, officers have typically turned a blind eye. However, drivers may soon begin seeing action taken against it.
During a brief regular meeting of the Silver Lake Town Council, held Wednesday evening, Jan. 13, Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter noted there has been an increase in vehicles performing U-turns downtown. While the town already has an ordinance prohibiting this, he said, it has not been enforced because there are no signs posted.
Hollopeter also noted there has been an increase in semi traffic downtown, which he believes makes U-turns more dangerous. He added that there have been no accidents resulting from U-turns yet and he hopes to have the signs posted before an accident can occur.
Street and Sewer Superintendent JT Prater presented a quote for a new storm sewer in the alleyway between Walnut Street and High Street, where flooding frequently occurs. The quote by Hohman Excavating Inc., Silver Lake, was for $3,183. Prater hopes to have the project done before spring rains hit.
Recognition was also given to local business owner Steve Parker, who recently sold Par Kan Company. Parker owned the business for more than 20 years.
The next regular meeting is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10.
