Lady Warriors Down Eagles
The Wawasee girls basketball team went to Columbia City and left with a 48-33 victory over the Eagles. Kylee Rostochak led the way with 17 points for Wawasee. Aubrey Schmeltz added eight points for the Lady Warriors. Wawasee held Columbia City leading scorer Holly Martinez to just one point.
Wawasee (5-11) snapped a four-game losing streak in the process and will play at Elkhart Memorial Saturday afternoon.
Memorial Leaves Syracuse With Victory
Wawasee had a tough night on the mat as the young squad welcomed in NLC power Elkhart Memorial. The Chargers downed the Warriors 51-21 to move to 6-0 in NLC competition.
Wawasee picked up victories at 285, 152, 132 and 182. Ricky Nelson earned a pin for Wawasee at 285 over Benjamin Zagal. At 152 Oscar Tienda earned a decision over Tyler Dicks. Tristin Ponsler used a pin in the first period to defeat Darnell Johnson and Alejandro Castro won via a DQ at 182.
The DQ leaves Memorial without David Eli for Tuesday’s NLC tilt with Northridge.
Wawasee finishes the season 0-7 in NLC dual meets. The conference meet will be held next Saturday at Memorial.
Gymnastics Fall To Carroll
The Wawasee gymnastics team got a good feel for where it is talent wise Thursday night as Carroll visited the Warriors. The Chargers left with a 99.55-96.63 victory.
Reagan Atwod highlighted the meet for Wawasee with a 34.225 score in the all-around, placing her first. Atwood also took first in the floor exercise (9.15) and on vault (8.65).
Wawasee will compete again Tuesday at Warsaw.
