Tigers Take Care Of Business, Remain Perfect
WARSAW – Taking on yet another team loaded with talent, Warsaw maintained its game plan and executed it perfectly Saturday night. The Tigers held highly touted Malik Williams and his Fort Wayne Snider side down just enough to claim a 53-46 boys basketball win Saturday night at the Tiger Den.
Williams, on a long wishlist of college basketball programs, managed a double-double but only had 13 points to go with his 12 rebounds. Williams was 5-14 from the floor for a Snider squad that shot 44 percent (18-41) overall for the night. Jordan Gorman led the Panthers with 14 points.
Warsaw countered with its star, Kyle Mangas, who posted 17 points and six rebounds. Paul Marandet only hit two shots, but was 10-12 from the free throw line to finish with 14 points and also added six rebounds and four assists.
Warsaw never led by more than 10 points, but achieved that lead at 42-32 in the midst of an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to completely flip over the ballgame that had Snider leading 32-31 entering the final quarter.
Snider, which lost to Homestead Friday night, falls to 7-4 overall. Warsaw began the night as one of just five unbeatens left in the state and maintains its status now at 12-0 overall. The Tigers moved to 3-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference Friday night after beating Goshen by 14.
The JV game results were not immediately reported.
The Warsaw freshman squad rolled past Fort Wayne Snider, 45-32, Saturday. Jaylen Reese led the charge with 15 points. Nolan Groninger added 12 points and Trevor Rumple chipped in nine points. The Tiger frosh are 12-1 on the season and play at home Monday against Elkhart Central.
Warsaw’s varsity and JV will host Mishawaka Marian Tuesday.
