Hatch Wins Again, Tigers Impressive At Garrett
GARRETT – With the second season rapidly approaching, the Warsaw wrestling team had a fine showing at the Garrett Invite Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers had five wrestlers finish in the top five at Garrett, led by Kyle Hatch. The junior just keeps claiming victims, rattling off another championship performance. Hatch moved to 29-0 overall after gathering a forfeit, then a pair of pins of Aiden Friedel of DeKalb and Jerrod Smith of Carmel. Hatch won the 138-pound title in emphatic fashion, scoring an 18-2 technical fall on East Noble’s Nate Housholder.
Warsaw had three wrestlers get back to rally for console bracket wins. Kameron Hile at 132, Francisco Ramirez at 152 and Luis Juarez at 182 all avenged early losses to finish the day with a win and a 4-1 day record.
Hile rallied from a second-round loss to eventually score a fall in the console final against Fort Wayne Wayne’s Logan Staples.
Juarez also came back from a second-round loss, closing out Leo’s Carter Morin in a 3-1 decision in the console final. Juarez scored three falls in his other action.
Ramirez lost in the first round, but won his last three matches by decision. In the console final, Ramirez defeated Chad Sauder of Carmel by an 8-5 result. Ramirez also accrued a forfeit win along the way.
Andrew Brock at 220 took fourth overall, going 2-2. After a forfeit and tech fall, Brock would lose by fall to eventual champ Sam Hipple of Carmel by fall and a 5-1 decision to John Isaacson of Leo in the third-place match.
Carmel won the team title at Garrett, scoring 271 points. Leo finished second at 218.5 and Garrett third at 202.5. Warsaw was sixth in the 14-team format with 105.5 points.
The Tigers close up its regular season Wednesday in hosting Concord in the final Northern Lakes Conference dual, then head into the tournament grid beginning the with NLC tournament next Saturday at Elkhart Memorial.
