WARSAW – The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club will sponsor a Tri-Star basketball competition Sunday, Feb. 21, and is for kids ages 8-13.

There will be divisions for boys and girls in each age group. Prizes will be given out to the first, second and third place finishers in each division and free T-shirts will be provided to the first 100 kids to register.

The event will be located at the Baker Youth Club, located at 1401 E. Smith St. in Warsaw. There is no cost to participate. Registration starts at 1:30 p.m. with the event to begin at 2 p.m. First place finishers in the event will move on to represent their community at the regional competition in the following weeks. All participants will be entered into a raffle to win a brand new iPad mini to be given out that day.

The event consists of three skills: dribbling, passing and shooting. For the dribbling portion, the participant must dribble through cones for time, for the passing portion, the participant throws three bounce passes and three chest passes at a target, and for the shooting portion, the participant shoots free throws and shots from the block just outside the three-second lane.
