Peru Tops At TRC Championships
SOUTH WHITLEY – Peru showed the muscle to win it all, and claimed the team title in style at the Three Rivers Conference Wrestling Championships Saturday hosted by Whitko.
Peru won seven of the 14 weight class championships to roll up 269 points, far enough from Rochester’s runner-up 202 and Manchester’s 194. Whitko finished with 96.5 points and Tippecanoe Valley ended with 85 points, taking ninth and tenth, respectively, in the standings.
Whitko only had seven wrestlers active in the tournament, but had some quality finishes among the lot. Logan Busz at 106 pounds continued his fine season with a runner-up finish. Peru’s Ethan Robinette closed out the Tiger’s first title with a 7-4 decision over Busz. Whitko’s Erick Loe also claimed second place at 160, on the short side of a pin from Peru’s Jordan Rader in the final.
Wildcats RJ Patrick at 120 and Dillon Alma at 170 were third in their classes.
Tippecanoe Valley had one third-place finish, that coming from Josh Back at 195. Jared Mikel at 145, Isaac Randall at 152 and Jameson Baker at 220 each finished fifth for the Vikings.
Whitko will compete at the 10-team Fort Wayne Carroll Sectional next Saturday, action beginning at 8 a.m. Tippecanoe Valley will look towards the 10-team Plymouth Sectional next Saturday, a 9 a.m. start time.
