Iditarod Demonstration At Syracuse-Wawasee Winter Carnival
SYRACUSE — This event began back in the 1970’s on Syracuse Lake. The main event that takes place each year and that highlights the carnival are the Snowmobile Drag Races. Each year racers come from Michigan, Ohio and all over Indiana to this unique event.
Chamber Director, Tammy Cotton, had a vision to bring the Winter Carnival back in 2009, after it had been cancelled year after year, since 1996 due to lack of ice on the lake each year.
Since it has been revived, the Syracuse-Chamber of Commerce has worked each year to add more events and activities to the races.
This year, is the “biggest ever,” with activities ranging from ice sculpting, to Polar Bear Plunge, to 5k Fun Run, to biscuit and gravy breakfast, food trucks, Iditarod demonstration, snow-shoeing, cross country skiing and more.
This is an event that you won’t want to miss. There is something for everyone. This is a one day event from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, ending the day with a beard contest.
