Creative Activities at the Library
This week is a great week to be a toddler at the Syracuse Library. Art for Preschoolers is introducing the sophisticated concept of “Cookies and Canvas.” Young children will sample delectable sweets while experiencing the joy of watercolor painting. The group is open for drop-in attendance at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25.
Toddler dance is returning with lots of movement and music at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27. The group has a lot of fun while experimenting with rhythm and physical expression.
‘Meet Doctor Who’ is meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening to view an episode of season six. The group is a good way to sort out some of the themes and follow the time traveling characters in the new episodes. The quality of the new episodes is often comparable to science fiction movies and the stories more interwoven than the old seasons. An invitation to ‘Meet Doctor Who’ is extended to anyone that liked the series and wants to keep sharp on some of the details.
Save the Date, Get the Book
Mark’s Ark is going to bring their fantastic animals to the library at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. Other activities are also being offered that day, since it’s ‘Take your Child to the Library Day!’ A prize will be given to each child who gets a library card on Saturday, so parents should have proof that they live in Turkey Creek Township and have a photo ID with them. Better yet, the parent can prepare to get their child a card by coming in before Saturday and getting their own library card. Children are not too young to have a library card at the library.
Join a book club this Feb. The evening adult book club, ‘One Book, One Hour’ is reading a memoir for this month’s discussion. Amy Dickinson, the popular guest on NPR’s “Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!” and syndicated advice columnist with the Chicago Tribune, has written a marvelous story about a small town girl who took over Ann Lander’s advice column.
“The Mighty Queens of Freeville: A Story of Surprising Second Chances” is a story about a young woman with a child whose husband walks out on her in London. Dickinson gives the insights one would expect from an advice columnist, enough details to be interesting and humorous, but not so much to invade the privacy of some of the characters in her real-life drama. The book club meets on Wednesday, Feb. 10, so notify the library for assistance in getting the book. Contact the library at (574) 457-3022.
