Medical History On Display In Syracuse
SYRACUSE — The Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum will host a visiting display of early 20th-century medical supplies.
The supplies were loaned to the museum by Jaqueline Wonso, a granddaughter of Celia Smith Kuhn. Celia Smith Kuhn, a 1910 graduate of Syracuse High School, married Dr. (George) Benjamin F. Kuhn, to whom much of the collection belonged, with the other portion of the collection belonging to Dr. Orla E. Kuhn, Benjamin’s younger brother.
Both doctors graduated from Bennett Medical College, now Loyola Medical School, with Benjamin graduating in 1898 and Orla graduating in 1904. Benjamin practiced medicine out of the Havilah Beardsley House, Elkhart, from approximately 1920-1940 and overall in Elkhart for 50 years.
Orla practiced in Chicago at Garfield Park Hospital.
For more information on the collection and the people it belonged to, stop in and visit the museum. The exhibit will be on display through all of February. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
