Member Of ‘Elkhart Four’ To Be Released This Week
ELKHART — A member of the so-called “Elkhart Four” will be released from prison this week.
The Indiana Department of Correction lists Levi Sparks’ release date as Sunday, January 31. However, offenders scheduled for release on a weekend are released ahead of time on Thursday.
Sparks, Blake Layman, and Anthony Sharp were sentenced for burglary on January 7, 2015. They were originally charged and convicted of felony murder, but the three successfully appealed their convictions.
Sparks, Layman, Sharp and Jose Quiroz were accused of being responsible for the death of 21-year-old co-conspirator Danzele Johnson during a deadly attempted burglary in October 2012.
Sparks, Layman, and Sharp were given release dates in 2017 or later, but those times were moved up after credits for good behavior and for earning a GED were applied.
Layman’s projected release date is September 2, 2016. Sharp’s projected release date is May 13, 2018.
