Mitchel D. ‘Mitch’ Howard
Mitchel D “Mitch” Howard, Sr., 89, of Wabash, died at 8:50 a.m., Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 at his home.
He was born Dec. 15, 1926 in Salyersville, Ky., to Fred and Bertha (Allen) Howard.
Mitch worked for the Wabash City Street Department, retiring after 38 years. He was a life member of the Wabash Eagles Lodge, Mitch enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening and canning vegetables, and feeding the birds and the squirrels. He also enjoyed eating at the Rock City Cafe.
He is survived by his son: Mitchel D. “Mick” Howard Jr. of Wabash; seven grandchildren: Tesha Howard of Wagener, S.C.; Mark Howard of Converse; Brett Howard and Harley Howard, both of Marion; Mickey Howard and Adam Howard, both of North Manchester; and Stacey Cooper of Somerset; several great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Wade (Dee) Howard of Alexandria; Lawrence Howard of North Manchester; Eddie (Carla) Howard of Urbana; Ora Gillend of Richmond, Va.; Opal Meck and Lula Music, both of North Manchester; Jeannie Johnson of Laketon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday Feb. 12, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
