Warsaw Reigns Supreme As Frosh NLC Champs
ELKHART – Warsaw’s freshman boys basketball team climbed the ladder Saturday to reach the summit, winning the Northern Lakes Conference tournament.
In game one, Warsaw defeated Northridge 47-28. A balanced attack saw Nolan Groninger finish with 14 points, Jaylen Reese end with 13 points and Trevor Rumple close with 10 points. In the championship game, Warsaw took down Elkhart Memorial 39-28. Groninger tossed in another 15 points and Tyler Metzinger scored nine points for the Tigers, which finished its remarkable season 20-1 overall and unbeaten in all NLC games. Warsaw’s only loss was to Lake Central way back on Dec. 11.
Wawasee’s involvement in the NLC tournament had the Warriors drop both of its games. Memorial beat Wawasee 42-34 despite Marshell Miller and Aaron Evans each scoring eight points. In its second game, Northridge took down Wawasee 43-30 as Miller and Evans each scored eight points in the second game as well. Wawasee closes its freshman campaign 6-14 overall, 1-8 in NLC games.
