Dog Alerts Family To Carbon Monoxide Problem
HARTLAND, WISC. — A Wisconsin family is calling their dog a hero. They say their pet’s persistence is the reason they’re still alive to share their story.
Five-year-old Bella Siekert says, Abby, a border collie/Aussie mix, is her best friend. But now Bella says she’s also earned a new nickname.
“Super Dog,” she says.
Last week, Abby alerted Bella’s Mom Nicole of a potential problem in the home. After returning home from taking Bella and her twin-sister Grace to school, Nicole began to feel sick.
“It was just really starting to hit me where I just felt very flu-ish suddenly. I felt very dizzy, very light-headed,” she said.
“(Abby) jumped up on the bed and started nudging me and pawing at me. She took my head and tried to lift up my head with her nose.”
When Nicole attempted to let Abby outside, Abby didn’t stop at the door. She continued to go down the stairs where the carbon monoxide detector was going off.
“It was like a flash,” Nicole said. “Everything just came together and it make sense.”
An exhaust pipe in the home was blocked, causing carbon monoxide to build up.
“She saved my life,” Nicole says of the dog. “She saved our lives.”
“We love her a lot and she’s really amazing,” Bella said.
