John Franklin Godshalk
John Franklin Godshalk 82, Sturgis, Mich., died on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at Sturgis Hospital in Michigan. He passed away of natural causes.
Godshalk was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Carroll County. He was a lifelong truck driver for a variety of companies including Dallas, Mavis and Logistics by Bontrager. He loved traveling and was featured in the Million Dollar Club.
He was the son of Robert and Florence Godshalk of Elkhart. John graduated from Elkhart High School in 1952. He served his country in the Air Force. On Feb. 15, 1995, he married Sharon (Nisley) Godshalk.
He is survived by one brother: Stanley (Karen) Godshalk, Elkhart; three sons: John Franklin, Cromwell; Tony (Marilyn) Layman, Bergton, Va.; Ray Sargent, Elkhart; two daughters: Anne (Joe) Howard, Elkhart; Brenda (Steve) Doing, Garland, Texas; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife: Sharon Godshalk; a son: Robert Lee Layman; a great-granddaughter: Da’Jeianna Smith.
He spent lots of happy hours fishing, camping and watching Nascar. He enjoyed driving his own race-car at New Paris, Motto Ville, South Bend and Plymouth Speedways.
A memorial service will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Eagles Club, Sturgis, Mich. Memorial gifts may be made to the Eagles Club. Yeager Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
