SYRACUSE — Upcoming events and programs at Syracuse Public Library:
Downton Abbey High Tea and Season Review
“Downton Abbey” has had six seasons as a popular BBC combination of soap-opera, historic documentary and social commentary. The library, along with the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum and the Syracuse Community are bringing back highlights from the series with a showing of key scenes, finger foods, and 1920’s fashion. We will meet from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, for an evening of “Downton Abbey” magic. Fans of the show are encouraged to sign up and attend the gala event at the community center. Dressing as a downstairs or upstairs person is optional.
Back-to-back Lineup on Wednesday
Toddler dance will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the library, when preschoolers move to a variety of songs. A snack is provided. Crafts and stories meets after school at 4 p.m. Children are invited to work on an art project while listening to a story. Meet Doctor Who is meeting at 6 p.m. Plans are to have a fun but fearsome game along with genuine cocoa and to watch an episode in Season six. The usual attendees are from a broad range of ages.
Around the Library
Having a leap year means an extra day of savings for the February $2-a-bag-sale. The Friends have more than enough books to offer the best bargain of the year.
Food from Fiction, the adult book club for finding good recipes in stories, is having some fun on St. Patrick’s Day with a holiday murder mystery by Isis Crawford. The group will talk about the characters in “A Catered St. Patrick’s Day” or any other of the nine books in the series. One Book, One Hour adult book club is reading “The Wayward Bus” for the March meeting.
Prizes will soon be awarded in the snowman coloring contest. The categories are by age and the winners will be called.
Thursday, Feb. 25, is the last day that knitting and crocheting is meeting this winter.
