Eldon ‘Guy’ Jagger
Eldon “Guy” Jagger, 85, Columbia City, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at Renaissance Village, Fort Wayne. Born on June 18, 1930, in Thorncreek Township of Whitley County, he was the son of Harry and Ethel (Shively) Jagger.
Guy graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1949. He married Shirley Duncan, his high school sweetheart, on June 24, 1949. Growing up on the family farm, he continued on with his passion and had been a lifelong farmer. He owned and operated Jagger Hereford Farms where he and his family raised Registered Polled Herefords.
At 20 years old, a farming accident left him with only one arm, but that never stopped Guy from achieving so much. He was the first person to be voted Outstanding Young Farmer in Whitley County. He won numerous state tractor pulling championships and enjoyed riding horses, swimming, water skiing, hunting, skeet shooting, mushroom hunting. He was a member of First Church of God, served on the Whitley County Council for over 20 years and the Jaycees. He also had been a 10 year 4-H member and a proud supporter of them.
He is survived by his children: Jim (Jayne) Jagger, South Whitley; Kathy (Tim) Cook; Cheryl (Bob) Schuman, both of Columbia City; sisters: Ruby Sherman; Marge Mowrey; Ellen (Matthew) Henney; Ardith (Ray) Cormany, all of Columbia City; grandchildren: Chad (Kristin) Fry; Travis (Regan) Fry; Rob (Sarah) Schuman; Sonja (Mason) Bordner; Shelbie (Brandon) Holler; Jason (Amy) Jagger; Jared (Daidra) Jagger; 18 great-grandchildren with one expected any day. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Shirley Jagger; sister: Carol “Joann” Prater; and brother: Fordus “Clee” Jagger.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, at the funeral home with Pastor Brandon Holler officiating. Burial will follow at Blue River Cemetery, Thorncreek Township. Memorial donations may be given in his memory to First Church of God or Whitley County 4-H, Inc.
