Ruth Meek Enyart
Ruth Meek Enyart, 92, Rochester, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2015, at Life Care Center of Rochester.
On Nov. 26, 1923, Ruth was born in Toledo, Ohio, a cherished daughter of Wesley Odus and Cecelia Grace Freeman Meek. Growing up she shared her childhood with two sisters and a brother.
On Dec. 7, 1940, in Peru, Ruth Meek married the love of her life, Mr. Raymond Enyart. As best friends they shared over 74 years of life’s adventures. From their union came two beautiful daughters, June and Sharon. Over the years the family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
A loyal and devoted member of the Rochester Church of the Nazarene, Ruth’s membership spanned more than six and a half decades. As a faithful servant of her church, she taught adult Sunday school, was a member of the choir’s soprano section and was a prayer warrior. Serving as president of the church missions, Ruth and Ray embraced a memorable mission trip to Suriname in the 1980’s. They also once visited Nassau, Bahamas to help with the construction of a church. An avid reader, Ruth’s favorite book was the Bible.
There were many Sundays after church, Ruth would return to her kitchen command post and prepare some of her amazing Sunday dinners. Whether it was a hot roast complimented by potatoes and vegetables or a sizzling meatloaf fresh from the oven, she would always serve rolls, salads and warm pie or cake, a true banquet fit for a king.
A vibrant lady always surrounded with friends and church family, Ruth was very neighborly offering a helping hand, listening ear and a caring heart. She cared for many shut-ins in her earlier years. Each spring she planted flower gardens that enhanced the landscape of her home. A craftsman with her hands she was accomplished with sewing, quilting and cake decorating. Many will remember her warm smile and twinkling eyes as she greeted her customers at Zimmerman’s Bakery.
Ruth is lovingly remembered by two daughters: June (David) Howe, Rochester; Sharon (Dohn) Herington, Mundelein, Ill.; three grandchildren: Doug Howe; Cheryl (Mike) Cholewczynski; Mark Alan (Suzanne) Herington; two great-grandchildren: Lindsay Joy; Brooke Noel Herington; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Ruth in death are her parents; husband; two sisters: Olga Marie Cook; Helen Bright; and a brother: Rev. Emmitt Meek.
The Enyart family wishes to express their grateful appreciation for the kind assistance, love and care conveyed to their treasured Mother by her caregivers of Life Care Center’s Martin Hall and Gentiva Hospice.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 3, at Good Family Funeral Home. The services will be at noon Thursday. Rev. Don Meyer will officate services. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
