LEESBURG — Ricky Alan Shepherd, 51, 4 EMS B6C Lane, Leesburg, was arrested Friday evening, March 11, on five charges, including two charges of bodily injury to a law enforcement officer.
Shepherd was booked on charges of two counts of battery causing bodily injury to law enforcement officer, both level 5 felonies; two counts of resisting law enforcement, both level 6 felonies; and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Gelbaugh responded to a call on Feb. 28, for an intoxicated individual attempting to force his way into a residence. North Webster Police Officer Clayton Rieder arrived and spoke to the homeowner, who reported her friend, Shepherd, came to the residence intoxicated. She told Shepherd she did not want him there and would not open the door.
She stated Shepherd broke the glass on the front door and began kicking the door, then broke another window to the home while yelling at her. When he saw police arriving he headed toward the nearby home of his mother. Damage to the home was estimated at less than $750.
Officers found that Shepherd had locked himself in a bedroom at the home of his mother. Police attempted numerous times to get Shepherd to open the door before he opened the door part way. Gelbaugh attempted to enter the room at which time Shepherd struck him in the chest. Several officers then entered the bedroom and Shepherd resisted officers, cursing and fighting. The document reports after an extended period of time, officers were able to handcuff Shepherd who continued to fight, curse and kick.
North Webster EMS was called to treat Shepherd and while being treated, he saw Rieder standing behind him. Shepherd became enraged and kicked Rieder in the leg. While attempting to place Shepherd in the police vehicle, he then kicked Rieder in the check, knocking him to the ground.
He was held on $25,000 surety, $250 cash bond.
