Michaelson Arrested For Prescription Fraud
WARSAW — Alleged forging of drug prescriptions has landed an Etna Green resident in jail.
Kyle Thomas Michaelson, 25, 607 N. Pearl St., Etna Green, was arrested for one count of acquiring a controlled substance by fraud, a level 6 felony.
On Oct. 16, 2015, officers with the Warsaw City Police Department were called to a local pharmacy, where an employee informed them that a subject had attempted to fill a prescription for adderall, a schedule II controlled substance.
The employee noted the prescription appeared to be photocopied. It had no security marks and the coloration was inconsistent. She refused to fill the prescription and, instead, called the police.
Another employee told officers that a subject by the same name had filled prescriptions for adderall on several occasions at different locations Sept. 18, 20 and 23, 2015, and Oct. 2, 4 and 8 2015.
The employee contacted the doctor’s office where the prescription had originated, and found the doctor had prescribed adderall for the subject July 22, 2015, Aug. 14, 2015, and Sept. 16, 2015. Officers contacted the pharmacies to obtain copies of the prescriptions and found they were all duplicates of the original, with only the dates changed.
Officers also spoke with employees at another pharmacy, where prescriptions had been filled for Kyle Michaelson July 24, 2015, and Sept. 25, 2015.
Officers spoke with the first subject Jan. 26. He admitted to using fraudulent prescriptions at the above-mentioned pharmacies to obtain adderall and that he used a color copier/printer to make copies of the original, legal prescription. He had also changed the dates.
Officers then spoke with Kyle Michaelson, who had obtained the original prescription and had used it to forge additional prescriptions for adderall.
Michaelson is being held at the Kosciusko County Jail on a $2,000 surety and cash bond.
