Town Gearing Up For Busy Season
NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster is preparing to receive its annual influx of fair weather visitors, according to reports presented at the Tuesday, March 15, town council meeting.
Brian Sand, recently elected president of the park board, told the council, “We have walked through the park and got some new ideas we will proceed with.”
The present board will be a little busier this year without Tim Hine, who left the department at the end of 2015.
“We will not replace Tim because we can’t,” said Sand. “The four of us will try to step forward and maintain the park as he did.
“We will keep the dynamic landscaping and we have ideas for the pavilion. We have sand coming for the beaches and the children’s playground area,” he said.
Betsy Luce, the town’s clerk-treasurer, welcomed Sand and said, “We wish you well on that.”
According to the February utility report filed with the council, the wastewater department is “still currently in the process of draining the pond to clean it.”
Also, the brush pile at the plant has been burned and the department can now take additional brush.
The street department is “in the process of repairing the snow damage that was caused by snow removal.” The plows have been taken off the trucks and the department is “gearing up for spring.”
Christmas decorations and winter banners have been replaced with spring banners.
Police Chief Greg Church reported the department’s four officers logged 661.75 hours and 3,792 miles in February.
They responded to 163 calls for service.
February’s 32 traffic related events included officers working under the state’s Operation Pullover. “All the officers in the state can work during their off-duty hours and get paid by the state through a grant,” explained Church.
Church also issued a public service announcement.
“As the warm weather approaches we have more people visiting town but the big thing is we have more people walking the roadways and more bicycles. Kids will be on spring break the first week of April. People need to be extra careful.”
He said his department would appreciate “if people would be vigilant of the increased foot traffic.”
The entire 15-week slate for Music in the Park has been filled. Performances take place at 7 p.m. Fridays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend at the town park.
The lineup: May 27, Soltre; June 3, Old Man Band; June 10, The Singing Auctioneer with Connie Strange; June 17, Shepherds Brass; June 24, Chain O Lakes Chorus; July 1, Short Term Memories; July 8, The United Band; July 15, Northeast Indiana Banjo Society; July 22, Scott and Terry; July 29, Auburn Dixielanders; Aug. 5, American Legion Band of Fort Wayne; Aug. 12, Almost Gone; Aug. 19, Lake Area Community Band; Aug. 26, The Living Word; and Sept. 2, Captain Bob.
