NCCAA Day Three: Consolations Resolved
WINONA LAKE – The consolation bracket was completed Friday night in the NCCAA National Championships at Grace College. The men’s and women’s games to decide fifth through eighth place in the respective tournaments were the feature at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
Women’s Seventh Place: Bethesda 130, Point 50
Bethesda (15-14) was on fire from the get-go, outscoring Point 39-7 in the first quarter. Seven Bethesda players reached double figures and 15 different players scored overall in the win, led by Lucille Gleason’s 21 points and Jonalynn Fuertes’ 20 points. Point wraps up 23-12, led by Dereese Owens’ 14 points and seven rebounds.
Women’s Fifth Place: Emmanuel 57, Bluefield 56
In a game that saw seven ties and seven lead changes, Emmanuel held on for its second win of the tournament. Elise Coberly had a monster game, finishing with 21 points and 13 rebounds for Emmanuel, which ends its season 21-12. Bluefield (21-13) had Shelby Key lead the team with 14 points.
Men’s Seventh Place: Bluefield 89, Alice Lloyd 79
Bluefield (22-14) put together a lead as large as 27 in the second half before holding off Alice Lloyd. Cordaris Townes led Bluefield with 26 points and 10 rebounds and Tony Hood added 18 points. Tyler Rogers paced Lloyd (18-16) with 20 points.
Men’s Fifth Place Game: Ohio Christian 69, Central Christian 56
John Johnson paced Ohio (24-10) with 14 points and Marquis Jackson had 13 points in the victory. Central (20-15) had Ernest Burton score 12 points and Kendric Warren score 11 points in its final game of the season.
