Claypool Council Discusses Water Woes
CLAYPOOL — The town council discussed invoices, audits and working without a clerk/treasurer at its Monday, March 21, meeting.
Niki Miller, town president, told the board John Barrett, town attorney, is looking into the issue of the town no longer having a clerk/treasurer since Beth Brewer, previous clerk/treasurer, presented her resignation to the council, effective as of March 1. Brewer cited health issues as reason for her resignation.
Miller said, “The town is running just fine. Well, it’s running.” She told the board the bills were getting paid and water bills are still being collected. She advised the town to be patient because there is no one at the clerk’s office at the moment, but she is checking the clerk’s office voicemail at least three times a day.
Miller presented the invoices from the Indiana State Board of Accounts for the audit that took place last year from June to November. “This is ugly,” stated Miller, “because they are charging the water utility this much and the wastewater utility this much.” The amounts being charged are $8,685 from the water utility and $8,279 from the wastewater utility. Miller went on to say, “This is a huge hit to the water.” This issue has been tabled until the next meeting.
There will be a Tax Increment Finance meeting to discuss options for payment of the SBoA audit.
