WARSAW — Warsaw Meadows Care Center has partnered with Long-Term Care Ventures to provide its residents with a technology called Pharmacogenetics. Pharmacogenetics, simply stated, involves the testing of DNA to determine how an individual metabolizes, or digests, their prescription medication.
The process is very easy and does not involve any blood draws. A simple swab is taken and analyzed by a lab. The results have application to a wide variety of pharmaceuticals, giving the physician an added tool in prescribing the most effective and efficient medication therapy for the individual person.
The benefits of knowing a person’s ability to process their medication can be invaluable, including more effective pain management and reduction of side effects.
“This technology allows us to take resident care to an increasingly personal level and give families information which they would not have had access to before,” said Tony Hill, senior administrator at Warsaw Meadows.
Warsaw Meadows is an 80-bed skilled nursing facility offering industry leading dementia care, short-term rehabilitation and general nursing care services. It is located at 300 E. Prairie St. near downtown Warsaw.
