Details Leading To Brewer’s Arrest Released
PIERCETON — Court documents have been filed against Jeffery Lee Brewer, 32, 308 S. Third St., Pierceton, in Kosciusko Superior Court 1. The charges are intimidation and attempted auto theft, both level 6 felonies.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was called on March 28 to Regency Estates Mobile Home Park. Police spoke with Cory Smith who advised his girl friend heard noises outside their home. When he looked outside he saw the dome light on inside his red 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix. Smith went outside and saw Brewer inside the front of the vehicle, attempting to steal the vehicle.
Smith and Brewer entered into an argument where Brewer told Smith he had a pistol and would shoot him. Brewer ran from the scene, with Smith chasing him. Smith told police it appeared he was attempting to get into a silver Pontiac Grand Prix.
Police found the ignition had been tampered with and had loose wires hanging. The stereo had been removed with wires hanging. Wire cutters and two sets of keys were found on the passenger seat but did not belong to Smith. One set of keys belonged to the silver Pontiac, parked a short distance away. That vehicle was registered to Heather Amburgey.
Brewer was identified by several witnesses who saw the attempted theft. One witness told police the silver Grand Prix is driven by Brewer and owned by his girl friend, Amburgey.
Police located Brewer who reported he had been at his brother’s residence earlier in the day. The silver Pontiac was parked in front of Regency Estates because it had broken down.
Amburgey told police he had left the residence earlier wearing a blue sweatshirt and had several pairs of wire cutters in his hand when he left in the silver Pontiac. When he returned to the residence, he did not have the vehicle and told her, police would be looking for him.
Brewer is being held on $5,000 surety and $250 cash bond.
