Pinwheel Garden To Be Planted In Honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month
WARSAW — CASA and DCS will join together at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, to plant a pinwheel garden on the south side of the courthouse lawn. The judges, school superintendents and other local community members have also been invited to participate.
CASA and DCS used to do a candle light vigil but decided to do a pinwheel garden this year. ” When you see a pink ribbon what do you think?,” asked Janelle Meyer, program director for CASA of Kosciusko County, referring to the pink breast cancer ribbons everyone is familiar with.
“We really want people to see a blue pinwheel and think child abuse prevention,” she explained. The garden will feature 100 pinwheels representing people in the county who have pledged to do their part in preventing child abuse, either by reporting it if they see it or by reaching out to a child in need in their community.
The goal for this event is to bring awareness of how preventing child abuse is a task for everyone to commit to. The blue pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention and CASA and DCS aspire to help the community recognize this symbol and do their part in April and all year round.
Those not available to make it on Wednesday are encouraged to wear blue.
