The YMCA’s Summer Day Camp Helps Youth Experience Their Best Summer Ever
WARSAW — The YMCA’s Camp Little Eagle is offering day camp to give kids entering Kindergarten through eighth grade an adventurous, active and healthy summer. Camp Little Eagle takes place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 6 to Aug. 12.
YMCA camp programs offer youth fun and unique experiences with an opportunity to explore the outdoors, meet new friends, discover new interests and create memories that last a lifetime.
Summer is the ideal time for kids to get up, get out and explore. But, for some kids summer means no access to recreational and educational activities to help them learn, grow and thrive during out-of-school time. As a result, some kids can experience learning loss and gain weight twice as fast than during the school year.
Attending Kosciusko Community YMCA’s summer camp is a wonderful opportunity for kids to keep their minds and bodies active. Again this summer, Camp Little Eagle will be involved in the YMCA’s Readers Program.
For four weeks of the summer staff will provide 30 minutes of reading time each day for campers to read to themselves. Kids can bring their own books, books will be provided and the kids will visit the library.
Also, kids will participate in swim lessons and water safety instruction at the Y twice a week and open swim on the other three days. Camp will keep kids active for at least 60 minutes each day through over 300 games and 32 nutritional activities, and kids will be encouraged to run a marathon throughout the summer on the Y’s outdoor track.
Campers will also take field trips almost every week to places where they have an opportunity to be active and/or engage with what they’re learning in the weekly themed lessons. Field trips include Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, Skyzone, Science Central, Edwin Clark Schouweiler Planetarium and Paige’s Crossing.
Camp Little Eagle provides a safe environment and is held at the Parkview Warsaw YMCA branch on Mariners Drive. The theme for this summer is Seusstastic Summer! And weekly themes will be based on Dr. Seuss books. Sign-ups are going on for camp now. Register soon, because there are a limited number of spaces.
To ensure that all youth have the chance to experience camp, the Kosciusko Community YMCA offers financial assistance to those in need. If you’re interested in helping send kids to camp this summer, you can donate to the Y at www.kcymca.org.
