Karen S. Ellenwood
Karen S. Ellenwood, 66, Akron, passed at 12:33 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Center for Hospice Care of South Bend.
She was born on March 10, 1950, in Louisville, Ky., to George and Lillian (Parks) Welch. She was married on Jan. 17, 1970, in Louisville, Ky. to Gary B. Ellenwood, he survives. She was a homemaker and worked for 10 years at Winona Corporation of Mentone as well as Viking Foods of Akron. She was a graduate of duPont Manual High School of Louisville, Kentucky. She enjoyed attending and cheering loudly for her kids and grandkids sporting events.
Karen is survived by her husband: Gary Ellenwood, Akron; daughters: Gina (Tad) Staller, Fort Wayne; Jessica Ellenwood, Chicago, Ill.; sons: Jeff (Stephanie) Ellenwood, Akron; Jonathan (Shi’Ann) Ellenwood, Mentone; 12 grandchildren: Ariel; Brice; Sabrina; Tad Jr.; Doug; Koria; Olivia; Alexandra; Jackson; Kayley; Alissa; and Branden.; two great-grandchildren: Ariana; Blake; sisters: LeEtta (Bill) McGarren, Brandenburg, Ky.; Linda Howelett, Elizabethtown, Ky.; brothers: Herbie (Rosie) Welch, Brandenburg, Ky.; Mike (Darlene) Welch, Sheperdsville, Ky. She was preceded in death by parents: George and Lillian Welch; and brother-in-law: Coleman Howlett.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Hartzler Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Randy Samuels.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Akron Youth League.
