MESA, ARIZ. — A Mesa dad met his daughter for the first time on Thursday after he had to miss her birth when he got attacked by a cat while trying to put the animal in its cage.

Randy Jeffris and his wife Theresa weren’t expecting baby Allure to come on the same day Randy had to get hand surgery.

“I don’t have words,” Randy said when he met his little girl. “Hey gorgeous, you waiting for daddy to get the party started?”

But the family has already had quite the party after Randy got a severe cat bite that required hand surgery. He and his wife never thought he’d miss the birth of their second daughter.

“We were kind of hoping the baby would wait, but kids come at their own time,” Randy said with a laugh.

Allure came into the world Thursday morning and Randy woke up to the news that his daughter was born and that she and his wife were both healthy.

“I woke up, they told me, ‘your baby is born,'” he said. “I was ready to get up, let’s go!”

Theresa delivered Allure with no complications, but says she is relieved to have Randy by her side again.

“We’re just so blessed and thankful to actually have daddy here now,” she said.
