Syracuse Chamber Works Toward Restructuring
SYRACUSE — Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce board members spent their regular monthly meeting Thursday, April 14, touching base on several aspects of the chamber as new Executive Director Andrea Reed comes into her responsibilities. Special focus was given to the chamber website, getting QuickBooks in order and planning the annual golf outing.
Teddy Pieper of Velocity Concepts LLC gave a presentation about his company and some of the changes he could make to the chamber website to improve it and make it more of a resource for the community. Beyond a new theme, he’d like to bring the blog aspect of the website and events to the forefront while also making the website valuable to chamber members by changing logo locations.
His services to update the website, among other benefits, would be $180 per month for two years, or $200 per month for two years to include hosting.
Board members all agreed they’d like to see the website up to date and be more of a valuable resource for the community and chamber members; however, beforehand, QuickBooks will have to be in order. Chamber President Tricia Small stated the finances should be in order shortly, noting they are working with accountant Jennifer Dorman to do so.
The chamber golf outing, June 15, has about 17 teams signed up to participate. Board members are currently organizing sponsorships while also seeking additional ones. The golf outing will occur at Maxwelton Golf Club.
In other chamber news:
- The bicentennial bison still has not arrived, even though the fiberglass statues are to be painted and displayed by Memorial Day weekend. Now weeks past the delivery date, board members asked Reed to find more information on the hold up and possibly see if the order could be canceled with a refund since the bison didn’t arrive on time.
- Reed will be looking at membership packages to update them for 2017.
- The chamber welcomed five new members: PolarKraft, T Spa, Lake City Auto, Park Place Apartments and Goshen College — Graduate and Adult Programs.
Next meeting will be at noon Thursday, May 5, in the chamber office.
