TVHS Building Trades To Hold Open House
CLAYPOOL — The Tippecanoe Valley High School Building Trades program, under the direction of instructor Wes Backus, will host its annual open house from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 15.
The open house features the home built for Preston and Ashley Singleton at 5043 S. CR 400W, Claypool. The home includes 2,055 square feet of living space on the main floor with three bedrooms, three and one-half baths, vaulted ceilings in the great room and tray ceilings in the master bedroom. It has a full basement that will eventually house a theater room, a large open area, a storm shelter room, a full bathroom and an office area.
There are two sets of stairs going from the basement to the garage and the basement into the home. Additional features include a two-car garage, a one-car wash bay and front and back covered porches.
The Singleton home is unique in that it is a Touchstone Energy home, built in collaboration with Kosciusko County REMC. The highly energy-efficient home has 6-inch exterior concrete walls covered with just under 3 inches of insulated foam inside and out. The foam remains in place after serving as a form when the concrete walls were poured.
TVHS building trades students have met the established home construction time schedule and the home will be ready for the open house.
Students involved in the TVHS building trades program can earn up to 18 college credits by participating in building trades during their junior and senior years. College credits are offered at no cost through Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne. Students must maintain a C or better grade in the class to earn college credits.
