Children’s Book Week Activities At Nappanee Library

NAPPANEE — Upcoming activities and events at the Nappanee Public Library include the following:
Children’s Week
Join the Nappanee Public Library as they celebrate kids’ books and encourage a love of reading with other libraries, businesses and organizations worldwide during Children’s Book Week.
Activities for children of all ages will take place daily Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, and no registration is required. Stop by the kids’ desk to enter a shredded book contest and find the gnome hidden somewhere in the library daily. Prizes will be awarded.
The following programs and activities will take place during the week:
- Children’s Book Week storytime will be offered in two sessions, 1-10:45 a.m. or 6-6:45 p.m. Monday, May 2. Children and their caregivers are welcome to attend.
- A special edition of “Wiggle Giggle Dance Party” will be from 6:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3. Library staff will keep little ones moving with upbeat kids’ music, dance and plenty of laughter in this high-energy program.
- Young Jedi can celebrate “Star Wars Day” from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, “May, the Fourth,” in a program filled with a galaxy of fun.
- Make some new storybook friends and enjoy activities based on Mo Willems’ beloved “Elephant and Piggie” series in a story time for all ages from 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday, May 5,.
- Drop in at the kids’ craft room any time from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, for a make-and-take craft.

Online Hunting, Fishing Registration
If limited access to big box stores and/or email are keeping you from getting your hunting or fishing license, the Nappanee Center, 302 W. Market St., Nappanee, can help with one-on-one instruction for applying online. Stop in at the center between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, May 2, through Wednesday, May 4, and get set for gaming in the great outdoors this spring and summer. No pre-registration is needed.

Book A Librarian
Are you feeling like a fly caught in the sticky strands of the World Wide
Web? Do you want to learn to make the most of the library’s online resources and services? Book a 30-minute appointment with Library Skills Trainer Martha Owen at the Nappanee Public Library any time between 9:30 a.m. and noon Thursdays, May 5 and May 19.
Get an overview of library collections and services, the NPL website or an introduction to the online catalog; learn to research using databases; download eBooks; beef up your computer skills like using a mouse and keyboard or creating and managing files and folders; fill in your family tree with genealogy resources; or brush up on Internet basics, like browsers, social media or setting up and using an email account.

Mom And Me Watercolor Workshop
Join artist Laurie Balla for a watercolor painting workshop at the Nappanee Library on Mother’s Day weekend. Aspiring artists, young and old, are encouraged to bring their mom or another special lady to paint alongside them from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3. Light refreshments will be served. Cost is $5 per person. You’ll go home with a finished floral painting.

Recipe Swap
Looking for ways to spice up your weekly menu or wow a crowd at your next potluck? The Nappanee Public Library will host a new recipe swap program from 7-8 p.m. the second Monday of each month. The next meeting will be May 9, and the theme will be “BBQ Potluck.” To participate, sign up on the events calendar or call (574) 773-7919. Submit your recipe to any service desk or email it to [email protected] by Monday, May 2. Bring your favorite summer potluck dish to the tasting and go home with a stack of new recipes from fellow home cooks.

Make a paracord bracelet
Make a woven paracord bracelet at the next Nappanee Public Library Pinterest night. Crafters will meet in the Cube, the Library’s makerspace, from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11. All materials will be available at a cost of $5.
All ages are welcome but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Pinterest Night is designed as a collaborative, learn-as-you-make program where participants share ideas and tips to complete popular projects found on Pinterest, the virtual bulletin board and Internet hub for bookmarking lifestyle links and images.
