NORTH WEBSTER — Spring has finally arrived bringing warm temperatures and the opportunity to enjoy some outdoor living. In times past, families often sat outside on their front porches, relaxing and connecting with neighbors. The North Webster Community Public Library has designated May as Front Porch Month. Throughout May, we are asking patrons to take photos of themselves, family, or friends sitting on their front porches and e-mail them to us. We will then post these photos on the library’s Facebook page to encourage others to enjoy their front porches as well. You can e-mail your photos to [email protected]. Your front porch is also a great place to read a book. Don’t have a front porch? The library has numerous books about creating the perfect one.
Another way to enjoy the spring weather is to join us on a spring wildflower hike at Chain O’ Lakes State Park at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14. We will meet in the library parking lot that morning and will travel by carpool to the Chain O’ Lake State Park near Albion. Each car will share the $7 gate entrance fee and gas expense. Bring along a sack lunch for a picnic meal before returning to the library by early afternoon. For details, contact Adult Services Director Beth Smith at (574) 834-7122 ext. 205 or e-mail [email protected].
Did you know that you can check out a free state park pass at the library? This entrance pass provides free access to Indiana’s 32 state parks and forest recreation areas and is made possible through a partnership of Indiana State Parks and Indiana State Library. Only one park pass is available on a first come/first serve basis to North Webster Library card holders. The pass can be checked out for one week only with $1 per day late fee if not returned by the due date. Stop by the circulation desk for details and start enjoying our state parks free.
While the monthly adult Make and Take Card class will continue at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 5, the children’s weekly Tuesdays Crafts and Stories has ended for the school year with plans to continue it in the fall. Also suspended for the summer is the monthly Craft and Chat session for adults.
There are still a few more days to enter the Indiana Author/Famous Person Drawing. Stop by the “Check It Out” station near the front desk, then check out a DVD, CD, or book about a famous Hoosier or by an Indiana author, and enter your name in the drawing for a chance to win a prize. April 30 is the entry deadline, so hurry on in.
