Fairgrounds Racing Postponed
WARSAW – An issue with the clay being brought into the Kosciusko County Community Fairgrounds has postponed the initial start date for the reintroduction of auto racing in Warsaw.
It’s been since 1991 when the sounds of race engines careened over the waters of Winona Lake and through the town of Warsaw and the county fairgrounds on a regular basis. A highly-successful return to racing came back last July at the fair when winged and non-winged micros whistled around the dirt track.
In January, the K-Fair Facebook made the announcement it was bringing back weekend racing to the fairgrounds much to the delight of thousands in the area. But issues with the clay, in another post made by the K-Fair this past Friday, has set back the tentative start to the race schedule.
Per the K-Fair Facebook: “The WMC Committee would like the community to know: We are having some trouble getting clay in. At this time we are still shooting for a Friday in June and will have the race during fair. Hopefully we will have more for everyone soon. Thank you for you continued support while we get the bugs worked out!”
Added K-Fair representative Jeanette Wood, “The track just won’t be ready for the May start we hoped for. We are having issues with the clay, but we are hopeful to get the June races in.”
Wood noted there is not a set-in-stone date in June for racing to begin, but was confident the racing for the Wednesday night of the fair in July would still go on as planned. The winged and non-winged Micro 600 and Jr. Micros will still be the features for the races.
Wood also noted the K-Fair will do its best to keep fans in the loop through posts to the K-Fair’s Facebook page as updates warrant.
