Grace Takes Sixth At CL Championship
SUNBURY, Ohio – Grace’s women’s golf team put the finishing touches on its inaugural season at the Crossroads League Championship on Monday and Tuesday.
The Lady Lancers finished sixth out of nine teams at NorthStar Golf Club. Grace defeated Spring Arbor, Mt. Vernon and Huntington in its first year as a program.
Lauren Keiser and Stevie Luebbert tied for 22nd in the field to lead Grace with identical scores of 263. Luebbert produced a season-best 80 in the third round on Tuesday to end her season on a high note, and Keiser was named honorable mention for All-League with an 87-93-83.
Libby Tully’s second-round 86 helped her to a score of 274, and Kate Adams carded a 90 in the first round on Monday.
Emily McDermit completed Grace’s lineup with a 103-113-113.
“I remember seeing the first conference ranking back in August when we were picked ninth out of nine teams. It may have been a reasonable statement with it being our first year of competition, but I never believed that we would finish last,” said Grace head coach Denny Duncan.
“This team has gotten better in every area of the game. Their scores have improved, they are practicing better, making better decisions and keeping a stronger grip on their composure. It’s been an amazing first year, and I love that they have become more mature players. We have a highly regarded class arriving in the fall, so the future is bright for Grace Women’s Golf!”
The Lady Lancers exceeded most expectations in their first year of collegiate competition in 2015-16 under Duncan’s leadership. The team participated in 14 events and had a NCCAA national qualifier (Keiser) represent Grace at NCCAA Nationals in Panama City Beach, Fla. Keiser finished 32nd out of 47 participants in the national tourney.
