Softball Whips Southwood
Whitko moved to 9-2 on the season with a 14-2 win Wednesday at Southwood.
Kennedy Krull doubled as part of the offensive outburst by Whitko. Andrea Snavely got the win for Whitko in the circle, holding Southwood to just three hits.
Whitko, winners of five of its last six games, will play Saturday in the Tippecanoe Valley Invite, taking on Northwestern in the second game of the tournament. Tippecanoe Valley and Fort Wayne Concordia are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. in the tourney’s first game.
Gaff Leads Whitko To Another Win
Whitko pitcher Tanner Gaff spun another quality start on the hill, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven Southwood hitters as the Wildcats won 6-2.
Gaff gave up just four hits and walked none in the complete game victory.
At the plate, Riley Anderson and Drew Bradford each had two hits for Whitko, Anderson driving in a run and Bradford scoring one.
Zach Ball led Southwood with two hits, a run and two stolen bases. Brennan Kelly went 6.2 innings, giving up six hits and striking out nine.
Whitko (7-4) visits Adams Central Friday.
Rochester Edges Whitko Golf
Rochester held off Whitko and North Miami in TRC golf Wednesday, shooting a 176. Whitko finished with a 181 and North Miami a 249.
Tim Gensch shot a personal-best 38, two-over par for the day. Grady Clingerman had a 47 and Cade Bechtold and Kaleb Busz each posted 48s for the Wildcats.
In JV scoring, Rochester shot a 197 to Whitko’s 199 and North Miami’s 229.
The Wildcats will take on Wawasee, South Bend Riley and Manchester Thursday at South Shore.
