Young Claims Miss Basketball Honor
INDIANAPOLIS — It may have been a foregone conclusion, but it became official Thursday night.
Jackie Young is Indiana’s Miss Basketball.
The confirmation of the second straight Miss Basketball (Ali Patberg last year) to be a Notre Dame recruit came at the IndyStar Indiana Sports Awards banquet at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The 6-foot guard from Princeton High became the all-time — boys and girls — scoring leader in Indiana high school basketball with 3,268 points.
Young was the mainstay of Princeton’s Class 3-A state championship team a year ago, when it knocked off Tippecanoe Valley for the title.
This year, Young’s senior year, top-ranked Princeton was upset in the sectional.
According to the Indianapolis Star, Young was named on 318 of the 433 Miss Basketball ballots submitted by coaches and media. Roncalli’s Lindsey Corsaro was a distant second and Tyasha Harris of Heritage Christian was third.
Young ranks 12th in her graduating class of 177 with a 3.9 GPA.
Joining Young on the Irish roster next school year will be Elizabethtown’s Erin Boley, Kentucky’s Miss Basketball.
The two will go head-to-head in early June in the two-game Indiana-Kentucky All-Star series.
