SYRACUSE PUBLIC LIBRARY
SYRACUSE — Syracuse Public Library staff announce activities for the week of May 1 – 14
Connect With Your Library This Summer
May is like a pause before the storm at the Syracuse Library. After Memorial Day there will follow a stream of special adult and children’s programs during June and July. Use our website for specific descriptions and times for the many guest presenters who are coming to the library this summer. A calendar of events will keep you informed about the times of summer activities.
Reach for the Stars Reading rewards program is being offered for children this summer. Young adults can earn Bingo rewards in the Exercise Your Mind Reading program. Teens and adults that enter the Bicentennial Book Battle to see which group is the first to read 200 books this summer will win a movie-party for their group.
Book Clubs in May
One Book, One Hour is having an evening discussion of the book, Day After Night, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11. Written by Anita Diamant who is an author that reached the bestseller list with word-of-mouth publicity with her first fictional book, The Red Tent.
Nine years later, Day after Night was released. It is the story about four Jewish women who transition into the new state of Israel through a British detention camp in 1945.
Young adults meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, for an hour of talking about movies. Teens will be asked which books have been mad into good movies and which books are worthwhile materials to become a movie. The latest book arrival are presented to the group along with a tasty snack.
Children’s Book Club meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, for a pizza party. This is the last children’s book club until next fall. Book clubs are a fun place to meet others who like to read and play games.
