Cleanup Reminders For Mentone Residents
MENTONE — The Mentone town council passed along a few reminders during the regular meeting Monday evening, May 2.
Tim Croy noted the town does not pick up bricks, concrete and other items. Town Marshal Jim Eads added that the town only picks up natural debris, like sticks, brush, garden weeds and grass clippings. Other materials are the responsibility of the resident, Croy said.
Croy also noted permits are required to build or install things like sheds, decks, pools and fences. However, he said, many residents are not obtaining permits prior to building.
To clear up confusion pertaining to water service, the council passed an ordinance stating the town owns and maintains the water service line from the main to the external shutoff while the homeowner owns the service line from the shutoff to his or her house.
Eads received approval from the council to send Deputy Marshal Louis Mediano to a weeklong training in Cloverdale, near Indianapolis. The classes are free, he said, so the only major expenses will be hotel and food. Eads said he has already had the training, so only Mediano will need to go.
