Late Cubs Rally Falls Short
SOUTH BEND – The South Bend Cubs lost the rubber game of their three game set against Wisconsin, 4-2, at Four Winds Field Wednesday afternoon.
On a cold day in downtown South Bend, the Cubs could only muster one hit over the first five innings against Wisconsin starting pitcher Freddy Peralta. The right-hander earned the win after five scoreless frames while striking out seven.
South Bend starter Justin Steele started the game with three scoreless innings but allowed four runs (three earned) in the fourth inning. The difference-making play-of-the-game was Wisconsin’s Monte Harrison’s three-run double in the fourth.
The Cubs picked up a run in the seventh inning when Tyler Alamo doubled in Jesse Hodges. South Bend added a run in the ninth inning and had the tying run on second base when Daniel Spingola popped out. Spingola went 0-4 ending his 14-game hitting streak.
