Gale Gene Owens
Gale Gene Owens of Silver Lake, passed away unexpectedly at 6:09 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, at the age of 60.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, where he was a 1974 graduate of Warsaw High School. Gale had worked at Par-Kan in Silver Lake for 27 years prior to being employed at SDI in Columbia City, for a number of years. Most recently he had been working at Tecomet in Warsaw, which was formerly Symmetry Medical, until his passing.
He was very active in his community and giving of his time coaching the Silver Lake Youth League for 21 years, as well as having served as president and vice president of that organization. Gale was currently serving on the Silver Lake Town Council, which he proudly served on for the last 17 years; and for many years he served on the Lake View Cemetery Board and was a past member of the Silver Lake Lions Club. Most of all he enjoyed serving the Lord and was a longtime member of Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God in Silver Lake. He will be missed greatly by his co-workers, friends, and most of all his beloved family.
He was born on Nov. 18, 1955, in Warsaw, to the late Annie (Whitaker) and Butler Owens. On March 31, 1979, in Silver Lake he was married to Dana Darlene Spangle and shared 37 years together prior to his passing. She survives in Silver Lake.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son: Matthew (wife Anna Kirsten) Owens, Pierceton; two daughters: Jama Brown, Syracuse; Annie (husband Perry) Weitzel, Roann; and seven grandchildren: Michael, Mason, Carson, Holden, Emmalia, Finley and Adalynn. He also leaves behind two brothers: Valis (wife Janice) Owens, Warsaw; Dale Owens (Leesburg, Florida); two Sisters: Evalina Spangle (Columbia City, Indiana); and Maggie (husband Elmer) England, Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Garna Bradford and Murline Smith, and his brother Dallas Owens.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, 303 S. Jefferson St., Silver Lake.
His funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God and officiated by Pastor Frank Whitaker assisted by Rev. Terry Bradford and Rev. Taylor Whitaker. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Lake View Cemetery of Silver Lake.
Arrangements are entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
