Baseball Team Tops Wabash
The Tippecanoe Valley baseball team collected a 5-2 win at Wabash in Three Rivers Conference play Wednesday night.
The Vikings scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and plated three tallies in the third frame for the key league victory.
Senior standout Eric Hammer notched the pitching win for the Vikings. The southpaw allowed just two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. He struck out four and walked six. Alec Craig pitched the final one-third of an inning for Valley.
The Vikings outhit the Apaches 8-4 and each team had one error.
Gavin Bussard paced the winning offense with a 3-3 night at the plate with a run scored and a stolen base. Craig had two hits and scored a pair of runs for the Vikings. Hammer had a triple and drove in two runs, while Jay Meyers had a hit and an RBI and Brandon Webster a hit and a run scored.
Valley returns to TRC action at Manchester on Thursday.
Softball Team Notches Win
Katie Gunter had the pitch and the pop at the plate to lead the Tippecanoe Valley softball team to a 9-7 win at Wabash Wednesday night.
Gunter notched the pitching win and also had four hits and two RBI as the Vikings won the Three Rivers Conference contest.
Gunter went all seven innings and fanned four and walked four in the circle.
Abby Betten smacked a home run among her two hits and drove in three runs for the winners. Kayla Scott had four hits, including a double, for Valley. Sydney Howard and Amanda Shepherd each had two hits and two RBI for the Vikings.
The game was tied at 6-6 before the Vikings scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Valley had 15 hits in the win, while Wabash had 11.
Valley improves to 7-10 overall and goes to 1-4 in TRC play.
The Vikings play at Manchester Thursday and at Southwood Friday in league games.
