Whitko Sports Wrap: May 11
Lady ‘Cats Fall Out Of TRC Race
Whitko needed a big win Wednesday to keep its hopes alive in the Three Rivers Conference softball chase. But so did Rochester, and the Zebras got it with a 3-0 win in South Whitley.
Whitko managed a pair of doubles, one from Emily Hughes and one from Tori Silveus, but couldn’t scratch across any runs. Ellie Snep had Whitko’s only other hit. The Wildcats didn’t get any hits until the sixth, stymied by Rochester’s Lexy Holland, who dealt the shutout.
Snep gave up just three hits of her own, but was handed the loss.
Whitko falls to 12-5 overall and 5-2 in the TRC with two games left in the conference circuit. Manchester currently leads the TRC with a 6-0 mark, Rochester a game back.
Whitko Baseball Says ‘No Problem’
The Wildcats had no trouble taking care of Rochester on the baseball diamond, 12-1, in five innings Wednesday.
Whitko scored at least two runs in each of its four innings at bat, having several get into the act. Landen Goff and River West each drove in three. Tanner Gaff drove in two and stole two bases and Garrett Smiley had three hits and two runs scored.
A two-run single from West in the third broke the game open, which was followed by RBI knocks from Goff and Gaff.
Drew Bradford was sharp in four innings, giving up just one hit and an unearned run. He walked none and struck out three.
Whitko (15-4, 5-2 TRC) will host Fremont this Friday.
