Warsaw Golf: Odd End To NLC Match
NAPPANEE – Neither Warsaw boys golf coach Ben Barkey nor Northridge skipper Dennis Sienicki had seen it in 33 combined years of coaching. A full-squad tiebreaker was called upon Thursday to break the tie in the Northern Lakes Conference golf match as Warsaw and Northridge each shot 164 and had identical fifth-man scores.
With 45s on the board in the fifth score slot from Tiger Jacob LaLonde and Raider Kyler Pippenger, the old NLC bylaw states the teams head back to the first tee. The No. 1 and No. 2 players from each team paired back up, and the 3-5 played together on the McCormick Creek hole. After all the players finished, Northridge had played even on the par four while Warsaw was three-over, giving the Raiders the NLC win.
In all the hubbub, NorthWood sat in the clubhouse taking two losses with its 175.
Luke Morrison led Northridge with a 37, followed by Jared Birr (40), Austin Schmidt (43) and Cody Loucks (44). For Warsaw, Sam Yeager led at 38, followed by Tim Rata (41), Luke Delp (42) and Michael Jensen (43).
NorthWood was led by Sean Hogan at 42, followed by Caleb Lung at 43 and 45s from Hayden Klotz and Nick Sherk.
Warsaw is 3-1 in the NLC, Northridge is 3-0, NorthWood is 0-4. Next up for the Tigers is the Culver Academy Invite this Saturday at Mystic Hills.
