Barbara Ellen Diehl
Barbara Ellen Diehl, 85, Warsaw, passed away May 16, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Feb. 25, 1931 in Nappanee, to Claude and Pearl (Roberts) Hepler. On Nov. 12, 1966 she married Carl “Sandy” Diehl in the Leesburg United Methodist Church where she kept her membership.
Barbara lived in Kosciusko County most of her life. The majority of her days were spent on the family farm located southwest of Leesburg. One would say that she was a homemaker but she was so much more than that. She raised children and chickens, gardened, sewed, did electrical work and developed many skills to the level of fine craftsmanship. Barbara was considered by many to be the best pie baker in Kosciusko County. She firmly believed in hard work, honest living and saying it like it is.
Barbara is survived by her husband Carl Diehl; sons: Ted Bast; Claude Diehl; daughter: Brenda (and spouse Jon) Lamon; seven grandchildren: Matthew Walton, Mark Walton, Andrew Bast, Ryan Bast, Jessica Diehl, Stephanie Diehl, Carl Diehl; and six great-grandchildren: Emily Walton, Ava Walton, Alexandra Walton, Henry Walton, Joseph Walton and Cora Best.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mason’s Healthcare Center for the kind support in her final days.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw officiated by Denny Bollenbacher. Interment will follow the service at the Leesburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw.
Memorials may be made to Kosciusko Community Foundation, 102 E. Market Street, Warsaw, IN 46580.
