Wawasee Baseball: Warriors Escape Falcons
BENTON — The Wawasee baseball team picked up its second win in three games Tuesday night. The Warriors traveled north to take on potential sectional opponent Fairfield and left with an 11-9 victory.
The Warriors opened up the game with an eight-run first inning and scored insurance runs in the second sixth innings to secure the win.
Rylan Kuhn, Jamie Slabaugh and Rieder Hunley each had a pair of hits for Wawasee. Hunley also tallied three runs scored and two RBIs. Wawasee was led on the mound by Gavin Bontrager who got the win after pitching three and two-thirds innings. Bontrager recorded four strikeouts.
Wawasee (6-17-1) wraps up its conference slate at home against Concord Wednesday night and finishes the regular season with a trip to Lakeland on Saturday. The Warriors will play Tippecanoe Valley in the opening round of the Lakeland Sectional next Wednesday.
Wawasee won the JV contest 15-5.
