Diversity Rally Goes Off Without A Hitch
WARSAW — Sunday afternoon, May 22, saw a gathering of community members at the Fountain Plaza in Central Park, Warsaw, to celebrate diversity in Kosciusko County.
“I’m just really glad this event is happening,” said Kalie Ammons, an attendee of the rally. “The Diversity Rally to me is a way for everyone to come together and discuss our differences … How it impacts Kosciusko County and how we’d like it to,” she continued as the rally was preparing to march.
“We reached out to our speakers in December and January of last year … We like to get a good variety of speakers for the rally,” stated Gennie Brissette-Tipton, one of the co-founders of the event. “We’ve held it [the Diversity Rally] here for the past three years … We’re happy with the turnout today,” she continued.
The rally opened with speeches and talks concerning the history of diversity in Indiana, Ageism and the LGBT community as well as discussion concerning the socioeconomic issues in the community. After a short musical interlude, the attendees picked up signs and began a short march around downtown Warsaw.
The group marched on the sidewalks all over down town to the occasional shouted support or jeer from passing cars, but they proceeded down the streets unaffected.
