Triton Softball: Trojans Claim Sectional Hardware Again
BOURBON – The Triton softball team entered sectional play as the team to beat.
The Trojans made sure there was no doubt about that Tuesday night.
Host Triton scored early and often in blasting Bethany Christian 16-0 in five innings in the title tilt of the Class 1-A Triton Sectional.
The Trojans, who made it four straight sectional championships, will play a one-game regional on May 31 at the winner of the LaCrosse Sectional. Argos will play either LaCrosse or South Central in the sectional final at LaCrosse on Thursday. LaCrosse is slated to meet South Central in a semifinal game on Wednesday.
Triton tallied five runs in the opening inning Tuesday night to make sure they were in complete command. Megan Berger smacked a two-run double in the opening frame and Courtney Jennings and Kate Gardner each had RBI singles for the Trojans.
The Trojans scored a single run in the second before adding three more in the third and seven in the fourth to complete the rout. Triton piled up 17 hits in the victory as they earned the fifth sectional title in program history.
Kayla Kreft led the offense with three hits. Tatum Hargrave had two hits and Berger finished with two hits and three RBI. Crystal Brown had three RBI and Gardner drove in two runs for the champions.
Jennings continued her fine work in the circle as she went four innings with six strikeouts and one walk. Jennings and Nicole Sechrist, who pitched one inning, allowed the Bruins just two hits in the contest.
Triton will take a 16-11 mark into regional play next Tuesday night. Bethany Christian finishes its season at 2-16.
