Anderson Hits Road Block At Regional
WARSAW — It was the end of the road for Triton’s Jordan Anderson at Thursday’s Warsaw Boys Golf Regional at Stonehenge Golf Club. Anderson was the lone local player to advance from last week’s sectional and would come up short before making the cut to state.
“Obviously I’m wanting a couple holes back,” Anderson began. “You can’t do anything about it now, but I’m happy with the way I played on the back nine. I made a few birdies on the last couple of holes, so I’m pleased overall.”
Anderson started his day on the first tee and was putting together a nice round before a hiccup on No. 5.
“I put my tee shot in a bad position. I knew I couldn’t go left there,” explained Anderson. “I ended up having to take an unplayable lie, so I’m hitting three. I rushed my shots, didn’t take my time and got frustrated, that didn’t help.”
Anderson took a 44 on the front nine, avoiding any serious damage with the the eight he shot on the fifth hole. On the back, the senior was back to form and finished his career on a strong note. Anderson shot a 37 over his final nine holes and even had back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to close the round.
Anderson has made his presence known in Bourbon in every sports season and was glad to end his career outside of the sectional for golf.
“It was very nice to make it our of sectionals, especially as a senior,” Anderson continued. “It’s been a great year overall for all three sports and this is a great way to end it. I think it’s pretty special to make back-to-back birdies on my last two holes. I’m just happy to be here.”
Homestead was more than happy to be at Stonehenge as the Spartans shot a 299 to take home the title. Columbia City was not far behind with its 301. Dwenger had a 309. Those teams will all advance to state.
Individuals advancing to state included Plymouth’s Micah Calhoun, who had a 75.
The top individual for the tournament was Tyler Green of Columbia City. The future Purdue Boilermaker shot a 68.
