Connolly Arrested For Theft
WARSAW — Calvin Connolly, 19, 1404 Tippecanoe Drive, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail, Saturday, June 11, for aiding, inducing or causing burglary, a level 4 felony and a class A misdemeanor of theft.
Warsaw Police Officer Ryan Moore responded to a burglary/theft at an apartment complex. When Moore arrived, he spoke with the resident, who reported she had left her apartment at or about, 11:30 a.m. and that she had locked the deadbolt before leaving.
When she returned approximately three hours later, she stated her two flat-screen televisions had been stolen. The resident reported she could find no evidence of forced entry but no one else had keys to her apartment. She provided serial numbers from the two TVs for the officer.
On April 7, Moore found the TVs matching the serial numbers at a local pawn shop. Moore then watched the surveillance video that shows Connolly carrying in the two TVs and handing them to the clerk. Connolly received $40 for each TV. The resident who reported the stolen TVs identified them as the ones being stolen from her apartment.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Connolly admitted to having sold the two TVs and he had spent the $80. He told Moore two other subjects, who he did not know, gave him the TVs.
Connolly told Moore that while the two subjects were at the apartment complex, he noticed the door was open to the apartment where the TVs were stolen.
Connolly admitted he knew the TVs were stolen when another resident in the complex asked if he knew about the stolen TVs. Connolly reported he told the resident he didn’t know about them because he wanted to keep the money.
Moore stated he spoke with the complex manager, who told them who had lived in the apartment before the current resident. Moore showed Connolly photos of the previous resident and identified him as the one of the two, who gave him the TVs. Connolly admitted to knowing this person, even though, he stated earlier he did not know either of the two subjects who gave him the TVs.
Connolly is being held on a bond of $15,250 surety and cash.
